Naruto Uzumaki's father was Minato Namikaze, the fourth hokage.

Naruto shares his last name with his mother, Kushina Uzumaki, and this is most likely due to the fact that the elders of the village didn't want people to link the Kyuubi's container with the honourable fourth Hokage. Minato sacrificed his own life to save the leaf village, as he sealed the fox demon in his newborn son, Naruto. He used the death reaper seal move to seal the kyuubi and Kushina, and that jutsu requires the user's life.

Contrary to popular belief, the reason Naruto takes Kushina's surname is not because she raised him, as she was sealed inside the Kyuubi for when Naruto tried to take control of its chakra and wasn't around any longer than Minato. Naruto grew up alone as an orphan and didn't even know who his parents were until Shippuden (when Naruto meets his father as Kyuubi takes over and Naruto tries to release him during his battle with Pein, then meets his mother confronting Kyuubi for control of his chakra). He actually mistakes his mother for the human form of Kyuubi at first.
