In the Harry Potter series, there are several themes and plots going on, but a few main ideas:

Harry Potter is a boy who's parents died when he was a baby, and so he is raised by his rotten aunt and uncle. Harry is told his parents died in a car crash. However, on his eleventh birthday, harry finds out that his parents were wizards, and were really killed by an evil wizard named Voldemort, who had tried to kill Harry but failed. Harry learns that he is a wizard, and is famous for defeating Voldemort. The books follow Harry's adventures at Hogwarts, a magic school for wizards and witches, as he learns magic, makes new friends, and faces dangers.

He ends up marrying his best friend's sister, having three children (one named after each of his parents and the third after two of his teachers) and--as cliche as it sounds--they all basically live happily ever after.

Harry starts to receive letters, so when scared Uncle Vernon drives them away, the Hogwarts Gamekeeper follows them. He tells Harry about his past and why he's so special. Harry goes to Hogwarts and meets his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. There, the three go on journeys spread over seven books, which involve danger, love and friendship, logic and making choices that will help others, and these usually end with Voldemort. In the end, they bring the downfall of Voldemort.
