Ralph decides that someone with more experience should either guide or control them; thus leading to the idea that Piggy could. Piggy was no chief even though he was older than the others. Ralph's own ability is weakening everyday. He concludes that if he were to blow the conch, and none of the boys were to show up, all sanity will be gone and they will be savages.
Ralph's very first decision when he is elected as chief is perhaps the worse decision he ever makes. In an act of friendship and also to console Jack, who has just lost the vote to be leader, Ralph places Jack in charge of the choir. He then asks Jack waht he wants the choir to be and Jack replies, "Hunters."

In the beginning of the novel, Ralph is elected to be the chief of the group of boys, despite Jack wanting and desiring more power. Ralph uses the conch as a symbol of power and authority. When the conch is blown, there are daily assemblies and meetings. Ralph also, comes up with the rule that the person holding the conch is the only one allowed to speak at the time. This allows there to be regulations and order on the island. This is good because the young boys need a sense of guidance in order to work efficiently. However, when Jack disobeys Ralph and begins to twist the rules of the island, Ralph is straightforward with him. He tells Jack that because he is the chief, Jack is supposed to listen and obey the rules and regulations. "I was chief; and you were going to do what I said." (pg. 74). This is when Ralph begins to take more control and realizes the importance of his position. Ralph begins to "assert his chieftainship" by being more strict with the rules for everyone, including Jack.
Being dirty all the time.
Most of the boys agree to join Jack's tribe, despite Ralph pointing out that he is the chief and that Jack has no shelters to use during the coming storm. Then the storm which has been building up finally breaks and Jack tells the boys to, "Do our dance! Come one! Dance!"
Piggy and the twins come to Ralph with a feast of properly ripened fruit.
Tony Soprano strangled him to death after they had a fight in Ralph's house. Tony's horse, Pie-O-My had been burnt in a fire that Tony had suspected Ralph had something to do with. There was a fight in Ralph's house and when Ralph was dead, Tony called Christopher to come and dismember the body.
it is ironic that Jack used fire to capture Ralph becuase be was trying to find Ralph, which he did. Also the fire caused a ship to come to the idland because they saw the jungle on fire. With the ship stopping at the island and an officer coming on the beach, saved Ralph who was coming so close to a violent death. The officer also stopped the other boys from continuing on to kill Ralph. The ship saves Ralph and alll of the remaining boys. Seeing an adult and being saved, makes all of the boys emotional.
Piggy concludes that Jack does not like him or Ralph, and sees them as obstacles to his authority and leadership on the island. He believes Jack views him and Ralph as weak and inferior to himself.
Being dirty all the time.
Ralph has come to accept the boys' lack of discipline and order, as well as the existence of the beast on the island, as normal. He also becomes desensitized to the violence and brutality among the boys.
President Lyndon Johnson puts Chief Justice Earl Warren in charge of the Warren Commission to come to a final conclusion
Ralph stands up to Jack at Castle Rock because he is determined to maintain order, protect the well-being of the group, and uphold the rules they have established. He confronts Jack's violent and chaotic leadership by asserting his authority as the elected chief and trying to reason with him to prevent further descent into savagery. Ultimately, Ralph's stand represents his commitment to civilization and his refusal to succumb to the brutal impulses of the boys on the island.
Ralph has come to realize they are living an uncivilized life. This is the stepping stone to the completely savage behavior that is to come.
