As in a civilian funeral, the choice of music is determined by the family. Songs commonly played, however, include "Amazing Grace," "Taps," "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," and the service-branch hymn of the deceased.

The National Anthem will always be played. The rest depends on the Branch of Service performing the ceremony. The Navy may play "Anchor's Away" The U.S. Army may play the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" the U.S. Marines may play the "Marine's Hymn." Some common marching songs, such as those written by John Phillip Sousa may be played as well.
