So far I have found out that it was written in 1948 by Stan Jones. It has been recorded by at least fifty different artist includeing Burl Ives and Bing Crosby. I found the info here. Rollin' & Tumblin'. This song has been recorded dozens, if not hundreds, of times by many different musicians. I don't know exactly what version is featured in the commercial.

Religion dates to a time before recorded history, so it is impossible to say. However in recorded history, there have been over 3,000 claims of god across various cultures and spawned close to 10,000 different religions. If we include different denominations, it is close to 10 times that amount.
