The Disney franchise that has spawned millions of fans (not to mention millions of bucks) may return for yet another sequel. However, the proposed sequel High School Musical 4 : East Meets West which was announced in 2009 was not developed as anticipated in 2010.
In its place was a spinoff sequel, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, which appeared as a Disney direct-to-video production in April, 2011.
In foreign markets, the Spanish language spinoff High School Musical : El Desafio appeared in Argentina in 2008. A Portuguese version, High School Musical : O Desafio was released in Brazil in 2010. Both were based on the book Battle of the Bands.
