I did a lot of research after hearing this "rumor" the other day. Everything I read on this subject states otherwise. Mr. Rogers was a ordained minister, and had no breaks in school or career were he could have went to war or anything of that nature. I found the following article:

After graduating from Rollins College in Florida with a degree in music in 1951, he immediately embarked on a broadcasting career - a career that continued uninterrupted for nearly 50 years, even while he studied for a Bachelor of Divinity degree, eventually becoming an ordained minister in 1962. Far from hiding a secret past as a trained killer, Fred Rogers was a truly gentle soul who devoted his entire adult life to educating and bettering the lives of children, and as such he deserves to be remembered.

As you can see, the information in these rumors are so varied and such, it just doesn't seem plausible.

Why can't people just accept the fact that Mr. Rogers was just a kindhearted person. Yes, there are people like this out there!!!

No. He didn't even have any military tattoos that were known of. He was Born in 1928 so would have been able to join ww2. based on many stats that say one in 300 americans killed were 17 or less in age. or more likely the Korean conflict.

He at 17 could have joined in 1945 for ww2.

he couldn't have been a marine as they did not officially become a branch until the national security act of 1947. he would have been a navy man or naval infantry to become a marine.

he went to seminary school to become ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1963. figuring 4-6 years of school to become a minister he could have served in ww2 and Korean War then had a change of heart and entered seminary.

There is no known tattoos that he wore. there is pictures from his childhood prior to tattoos and all his latter life from 1967 on he is always in long sleeves. I was believed he did so as to let him as a person not be of interest but the stories he told to be the important part.
