Yes - it's based on the abduction of Amber Rene Hagerman. At jsut nine years old, Amber was abducted in January 1996, while riding her bike in Arlington, Texas. Amber's father, Richard Hagerman and Amber's mother, Donna Whitson called the media and the FBI. The Whitsons and their neighbors began searching for Amber. Four days after the abduction, a man walking his dog found Amber's body in a storm drainage ditch. Her killer was never found, and her murder remains unsolved.
