Extending this slide lowers the pitch, while shortening it raises the pitch. To play different octaves, you need to change your embouchure (your lips), by either tightening or loosing the lips.

Grease and oil on the glass slide can interfere with the staining process and affect the ability to observe the flagella. They can create a barrier that prevents proper adhesion of the bacterial cells to the slide and disrupt the staining solution from evenly spreading across the slide surface. To ensure accurate results and clear observation of the flagella, it is essential to start with a clean, grease-free glass slide.
Many kinds of grease can be used for brake slide pins. They have to be heat and moisture resistant.
take out the tuning slide which is the one that the spit comes out of and take some of the slide grease and put it on, making sure it's rubbed in completely. Put the slide back on and push it in and out a few times so you can get the grease rubbed in. You should feel it getting easier to slide as you do this.
