Synonyms of Gothic from Encarta:

supernatural, creepy, eerie, melodramatic, grotesque, gloomy, spooky

(Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 1998-2004 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.) In some of these ways the description of goth could be fitting for Severus Snape.

Gothic as far as the subculture of punk would not be very fitting however. That form of Gothic is mainly defined by its music, make-up, and clothing styles. Since Snape was never described in the books as sitting in his dungeon listening to Siouxsie & the Banshees' while wearing black lipstick and fish net gloves, we have no reason to believe this classification would be true of him. Snape was not a Goth. He was a social outcast who never really developed any sense of self-worth. Snape really didn't know any other way to be.
