His Akatsuki partner, Deidara had different beliefs. Dei thought Art was a big boom. (hence his phrase "Art is a bang!") Though they argued over their opinions, they both had respect for each other and fellow artists.
I think he used the the jutsu of making people into human puppets on him self..you are wondering why is he still living.. cause he did not use the technique on his heart, i mean,how do you think elder chiyo defeated sasori. by hitting his heart,the only living point and the chakra of his body...... this jutsu cannot be released from his body.
He was originally a human, then he turned himself into a human-puppet (a puppet made from a human). His only part which is still human is only his heart. And for you to know why, he did that because he could have eternal youth (that's why he looks like a teenage boy when he's actually over 30) and great weapons within him.
