Destiny Lightsy was the first one to be originally cast to play Aaliyah, and there were lots of promo pictures she took where she looked just like her. But then the production company decided to cast the 20 year old Canadian born singer Keisha Chante. She has a slight resemblance to Aaliyah and that's one of the reasons the director for the biopic chose her. The movie is supposed to start wrapping up and being completed sometime this year or next year. But Keshia Chante is the one being confirmed for the role of Aaliyah. She's already in extensive training, watching home movies of Aaliyah from childhood all throughout her career, talking to her parents and brother, her friends Missy, Timbaland, and Ginuwine who will also be featured in the biopic, and learning the many different choreography Aaliyah did by getting trained with Aaliyah's trainer/best friend Fatima Robinson.
