In modern times, most Republicans tend to be conservative. Some are socially conservative (very influenced by their interpretation of Christianity, which means they are traditional about morality: most are anti-abortion, opposed to gay marriage, in favor of prayer in public schools, and in some cases, opposed to the use of contraception). Others are fiscally conservative (believers in small and limited government; opposed to what they see as too much regulation; opposed to higher taxes on wealthy people or corporations). But historically, there have been some moderate and even liberal Republicans; there just do not seem to be as many of them in our current political climate.

back then, journalists were journalists and political affiliation wasn't apparent like it is today with Fox News and MSNBC...
One could ask the same thing of Fox News and its conservative viewers. Fox news speaks the truth and MSNBC speaks deception. Anyone who actually listens to conservative policies know that they work best in gov. I'm not sure, i guess they're just idiots. - first comment made by a different commenter (most likely a liberal)
