The Simpsons remains hilarious. It will stop being funny after it is cancelled. But up until the day it goes off the air, it will be funny.

Though there are some that have never thought the Simpsons funny.

Actually, there are some that add this program to list of sad indicators of the decay of (American) civilization as we know it. Which should make the producers of the show very proud, indeed. While it forces the viewing public to laugh at America, it also obviates the need for social reform. Immediately, if not sooner.

I believe it was somewhere around the 9th season that the Simpsons stopped being as funny, and instead moved into the territory of wacky.

This period was marked by a large change in the personality of Homer Simpson. Instead of being an every-man, an average slightly dense guy stuck in a dead end job who tried hard as a dad but often failed, Homer instead became a narcissistic manic, whose aim was to pursue lofty goals which created ridiculous complications due to his lack of compentence and responsibility. He now magically never runs into long term consequences for his increasingly poor decisions.

The other characters often became more tight-cast in their roles. For example Marge is more frequently cast into the disapproving shrew wife role, while Bart's personality has been reduced into a sidekick straight man to Homer's antics.
