Ryoma Echizen went to the US at the last chapter of the manga because, he went to the U.S. Open because everyone urged him to go instead of going to the nationals, but he comes back to play in the nationals in the OVA's

Well, the manga starts off with him in coming from America so I think it was a loop ending, but he probably went there to train. There's a New Prince of Tennis running monthly right now, and it's the continuation of the series.
