Actually, Kira's dad, Christopher, didn't die. In the beginning of the book, it gives you the impression that he was killed by beasts during a hunt, but he didn't. There are no beasts. He was attacked by Jamison during that hunt because Christopher was soon to be appointed to the Council of Guardians and Jamison wanted the position. The only way to get it was to kill Christopher. So Jamison attacked Christopher during the hunt and made it look like a beast attacked him. He thought he had killed Christopher, but he had only severely wounded and blinded him. Christopher was dragged to the Field (everyone thought he was dead) and was left there. After everyone left and went to sleep, other people carried Christopher to a village and took care of/ healed him. He lived there until Matt came there to get blue cloth and moad as a present for Kira. Matt also brought Christopher with him.
