Back in 97 when DX was actually relevant and still called themselves "the Kliq" for lack of a better term, Bret Hart would call the group "a bunch of degenerates" and since Shawn and Hunter were both born in the era of Generation X they stated that they were "tired of Generation X getting a bad rap" and put two and two together thus christening themselves D Generation X.
