I presume they're keeping him the same age (12-years old) as the original series just so it doesn't complicate things (although by now I'm guessing Ryoma SHOULD be thirteen). However, he does appear to look a little older in my opinion (a longer chin, a more guy-ish face than a girl, with the same traits) He should be older though.
