Well, it depends on how old the child is; 5 or younger, aim for a few words on a page, lots of pictures. if it's a learn to read book, then there should be easy words and pictures to help the child decipher the story 5-8 30,000-35,000 9-12 40,000 Young adult, i love reading long books, 100,000 words (roughly) but most novels are 70,000- 80,000 words.
