Hi!
I assume you're talking about the guitar playing of Herman Li - the lead guitarist in Dragonforce.
First of all, it is important to note that, to be fair, much as I like the band, they use a LOT of studio mixing and effects. Having gone to see them live, that is pretty obvious.
That said, you can still get a similar sound to Dragonforce. In essence, you'll need a decent guitar with a fast action - low bridge to allow quick depression of the strings. Also, you'll need effects pedals, to get a reasonably authentic sound. At LEAST, a metal distortion pedal, a Wah pedal and a Whammy pedal. I use:
Digitech Whammy (Expression) pedal
Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon Wah (Expression) pedal
Behringer UM300 Ultra Metal pedal
Essentially, you'll need as good co-ordination with your feet as with your hands in most of their tracks, since the solos use a lot of Wah Wah and Whammy effects (the sort of super-high-pitched wails of the lead guitar). You'll often end up using both feet and once, and, of course, giving your fingers a good work out on the strings at the same time too!
Basically, as with most things, there's no magic formula, it's just practice - I'd recommend you start off learning numbers by other metal bands. Start off with slower, easier bands and songs - Iron Maiden solos etc, to get your hands used to moving reasonably quickly, then work up from there.
Try also to work out the slower Dragonforce songs and solos. Mostly they use similar finger and hand movements to those in the faster songs, so, once again, that will allow you to teach your hands how to move, just at a slower pace. Then, before you know it, you can work up to the insane solos!
Hope that helps, best of luck!
power metal
The guitar is sped up in the recording studio. The singing is recorded separately. When Dragonforce play live, the guitarists struggle to keep up when they are forced to play much faster then they did when they recorded their songs. It is NOT FAKE! Just because GH3 (guitar hero 3) have been starting false rumors about Dragonforce. If anyone has a care in the world to actually see any of there performances in Japan or UK they sound much alike on the album. In the Ultra beat down Bonus DVD they show you the making of the album and its not sped up.
By the band, DragonForce. Written by Sam Totman & ZP Theart
Dragonforce would be the best band ever if they could actually perform their own music properly and didn't have it modified in the studio. If you listen to them live youll notice that they are complete garbage and all their songs sound exceptionally similar therefore leading to the fact that their performers have very little talent.
No, DRAGONFORCE does not speed up any of there songs!!!!! Lets take a dragonforce tab we will use the famous one "through the fire and the flames" --20-11-20-11-18-11-18-11-20-11-20-11-16-11-16-11-20-11-20-11-18-11-18-11-20-11- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- then immediately following --20p-16----------------16-18-16-18-20-23------| ---------16----------16--------------------21--| ------------17----17---------------------------| ---------------18------------------------------| -----------------------------------------------| -----------------------------------------------| now that easy to do if you record it in parts very easy and doing it fast while still hard is only possible cleanly when you record it in parts. Why are that bad live and they seem like they sped there stuff up? They are tired playing all of that fast is extremely hard with out breaks and you wear yourself out quickly and its easier in studio because you can record in parts and you have plenty of time after a section to move your hand and get in position ready to play instead of quickly jumping positions or modes like they have to do live So the answer no but they still cheat in a way but all bands do the same thing in a recording studio and they are horrid live there drunk most of the time and worn out
Years and years of practice
They are classed as power metal.
you have to be good
