Prim dies in Mockingjay when she goes to the the Capitol to help the ill children when she is tending to the children hovercrafts appear and they blow up the hospital and Prim goes in to try and help the ill children and she is killed by one of the bombs hope this helped.

Prim has to die so that Katniss knows President Coin is just as bad as President Snow. It is also a way to show that not everything works out the way you want it and that happy endings are things from fairytales.
