Well techically, they didnt. Katniss shot a hole through the gamesmakers force field and got badly injured. She was part of a team planning to overthrow the Capitol. Peeta was taken by the Capitol because they thought he knew something about the rescue team that saved katniss. Hoped this helped:)

When Peeta was swinging a knife around cutting down plants, he accidentally hit a force field that shocked him so bad that his heart stopped. Finnick performed CPR on Peeta which saved his life. He could have just left Peeta to die, but he didn't.
