She died of pneumonia according to newspaper accounts and the testimony of a close friend. The overdose rumor was at best only partially true as medication she was taking for her condition apparently caused complications that may have played a role in her death. The Jersey Boys account of her death may have been embellished for dramatic effect as many parts of that musical drama are not totally factually and/or chronologically accurate.
