The Monkees were a combination of 2 actors & 2 musicians, they were hired to portray a band for the television show, however the music was such a hit & the songs were so loved that the 2 actors taught themselves to be musicians (they possessed some musical ability already) & before the first season on the air ended the 4 guys were playing together & acting like a band and able to go out & do concerts. Once the show ended, the guys decided to stay together as a group. Here we are 40 years after the show ended & they all still "play" & a few still tour! They have endured.
