George VI (Albert Frederick Arthur George of Windsor) was treated for lung cancer and arteriosclerosis after World War II, suffering an arterial blockage in 1949. He died in his sleep of coronary thrombosis on February 6, 1952, at age 56.

George VI had assumed the throne after the death of his father George V, and the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII. He reigned from 1936 to 1952. He had 2 daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret.
