Victory of Oswald and Santhi I have no idea as to the reasoning behind the previous 'answer' - 'Oswin' means 'friend of God'.....there is NO other meaning!

Clara's identity is a mystery, not least to The Doctor himself. He has encountered her three times- once in the future on the Dalek's Asylum Planet (as a survivor of the crash of the spaceliner 'Alaska', upon which she was Junior Entertainments Officer), once in 1870s London, where she worked as a barmaid and also a children's Governess, and once in the present day. On the two previous occasions, she died- in her current incarnation, she was born in the mid-1980s (her parents met by chance when her mother pulled her father out of the path of an oncoming Morris Marina after a leaf blew into his face). Her mother died in 2005, aged just 45, but her father is still alive. But nobody knows who she truly is- she seems to keep being reincarnated as herself throughout the ages, and The Doctor is fascinated by this (not least because she always has more or less the same name every time!) One of his main interests is currently in trying to crack the mystery- he attempted to get psychic Emma Grayling in the episode 'Hide' to shed some light on it, but even she couldn't do that. So indeed- who is she? All will eventually be revealed!!
