Listen to a lot of music and figure out which types of music you like the best. After that, you will have many song that you can practice singing. Being a singer requires a lot of practice so that you can sound as best as you can. Work on your pitch, range, and screaming(if you like metal) etc. After this you should work on writing songs to be original. OK I am going to use Justin Bieber as an example. Justin was discovered on YouTube by producers when he was 13. But he prepared himself from an earlier age. He taught himself how to play several Musical Instruments and appeared in local talent contests. His Mom posted videos of him performing on you tube when he was twelve. You know the rest of the story.
The key is preparation. Be ready to take advantage of opportunity. Justin Bieber was discovered on YouTube but that isn't the only vehicle. Audition for roles, try talent competitions. The x-factor is coming to America. Become a student of your passion. Most of all you must believe in yourself.
