when he was battling gaara in the arena, sasuke used chidori to break into gaaras sand shield ball thing. he used it in his left hand when he ran down the wall.
when sasuke met his brother and kisame talking to naruto (not in the shippuuden-you know, the episode where jiraiya uses some toad jutsu to save the kids) he again used chidori in his left hand. By the way, has anyone noticed in that episode, where sasuke is running towards Itachi, he looks like he has boobs?
when sasuke was in the hospital he challenged naruto to a fight on the rooftop, naruto used rasengan, and sasuke used chidori, in his LEFT HAND! Naruto however used rasengan in his right.
At the final battle when naruto and sasuke fight because Sasuke was leaving for orochimaru, he transforms and so does naruto, naruto uses rasengan in his right, but sasuke again, uses chidori in, u guessed it, his LEFT!

Well because Itachi is so awesome he didn't use a jutsu at all. His sharingan just adjusted to the attack he used his speed to grab sasuke's wrist just above the chidori and stopped it he forced sasuke to hit the wall with his chidori.

Thus if the purpose is of the direct killing of the enemy in one hit as that of the sword then chidori helps, but if the aim is for maximum destruction of most of the body parts then rasengan is very useful.Also in naruto series it has been shown that when sasuke and naruto fights on hospital's terrace then, rasengan does more damage to the water tank than chidori which makes sasuke feel jealous of naruto.Also one should take into consideration that chidori is complete, so if the complete form of rasengan is comapred with chidori i.e. Rasen Shuriken then there is no doubt that chidori is many times weaker than rasen shuriken. Also rasen shuriken has even more advantage over chidori as wind element is stronger than lightning.Also the rank of Rasen Shuriken is not known.
