No, he's the lead guitarist. AC/DC has had several lead singers, but you're probably thinking of either Bon Scott (Dirty Deeds, Highway to Hell) or Brian Johnson (Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long).

Yes during 1980-1981 when they didn't have a singer he sang songs live. They were actually very good too. The only reason he could to this though is because he was singing down an octave.
