If you're looking to sell your own (or your band's) material, you can simply have the albums pressed onto your format of choice (CD, vinyl, etc.) and then you have an array of options. You can sell them through websites such as Ebay or GEMM, you can sell them by way of your band's Myspace page, and you can tell them at the venues you play at. You could also start your own record label. If you wanted to sell albums by other bands, you would need to set up a storefront of some sort (such as Ebay Stores, Half.com by Ebay, GEMM, or even your own website, complete with shopping cart) and purchase the albums you wish to sell wholesale from the labels. This may require a bit of clever 'wheeling and dealing' on your part.
It is unlikely that Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. needs to sell his soul for the various drugs he has been arrested in possession of, or has admitted to using recreationally. He can probably afford to maintain quite a habit, and so probably has no need to hawk his soul for a bit of spare change.
Im not sure exactly, this is a question that i would like somebody to answer aswell, but i heard once that between release monday and chart compilement sat/sun, over six days you need to sell in the region of between 400 and 1000 records to get into the top 40. The top 100 however is a different story. You only need to sell a few to get into the top 100. When i say a few im meaning 10's-100's of copys. A few sounds crazy easy, but without money for marketing, its hard to sell more than a few in six days. O' by the way, I think this to be true about Hard Sales rather than Internet downloads.
