All scary movies are real in the sense that they exist. You can buy them, rent them, watch them. But no movie is real in the sense that it actually happened. Even the ones that really are 'based on a true story' or 'inspired by true events' are fictionalized to heighten suspense, fear, and drama.

Yes, Parents SHOULD make sure their children know that scary movies are not real, but if the child(ren) are very young, or the movie may be too scary for them, I'd advise the parents to not make/let the child(ren) watch the movie.
