It is hinted at in Ballad of John and Yoko (giving all our clothes to charity, Last Night, the Wife said, Ono, when You"re dead,,, ( very prophetic) and the song goes on somewhat cynically. As far as I know The Beatles were not involved with any large-scale organized charity- they did not give Benefit concerts for the Salvation Army ( by the way originally British) or similar groups- Late in their career Paul and John were involved with radio commercials for- of all things- the R.S.P.C.A/ Yes, the British equivalent, and older, founded indirectly by Victoria, hence the R, for Royal) in England the RSPCA sometimes used large ceramic dog statues- hollowed out as banks, and had them strategically placed in big shopping centers- but not pet shops. other charities used similar fund-raising strategies. the RNLI- or Royal National Life-boat institution used model life-boats with plexiglass covers and coin slots and these used to cast off all lines- in Drug stores, as I recall. the RNLI has some of the humanitarian ( but not law enforcement) functions of the US Coast Guard and as late as the sixties was kept going entirely on volunteer activity and contributions. They had very tasteful Propaganda campaigns in maritime magazines, toss em a (Life) line!
Some; the Royal Variety Show is a charitable show and the Beatles famously performed in the 1963 one (although they turned down all subsequent invitations to appear).
After the Beatles split up, all four did more charity works - George Harrison pioneered the large charity concert with the Concert for Bangladesh.
Much more since the band split up; the band didn't understand about income tax when they became big earners and were amazed to be told that half their income would be taken by the government (later it would approach 95%) and Ringo argued that the government was doing good with their money.
Later, all four Beatles gave generously - George Harrison pretty much invented the large charity concert with the Concert for Bangladesh.
Lennon contributed money to various charities, mostly as private donations. In 1975, he spent an entire weekend in Philadelphia working on the WLIF Helping Hand marathon, answering phones and taking pledges from callers. Lennon also donated a large sum of money in the late 1970s for the purpose of supplying bullet-proof vests for NYPD officers. (This was during the time that NYC was undergoing a financial crisis.)
Both Lennon and Yoko Ono tithed ten percent of their income, earmarking it for a number of charities. After they noticed that donation checks tended to be framed and hung on walls, rather than cashed and the money used, they set up "Spirit Foundation" as a way to make donations anonymously. (Ono later had to turn away donations made by fans to Spirit Foundation, because they constituted taxable income for her and Lennon's estate, and encouraged donors to give the money to their favorite charities instead.)
Lennon and Ono performed charity concerts in the 1970s (most notably the 1972 "One to One" concerts at Madison Square Garden), but Lennon soured on this in time: "It means everybody but the artist gets paid... I have been benefited to death."
In 1971, Lennon paid the funeral expenses for the victims of Ireland's Bloody Sunday; this led to his getting tagged as a "supporter of the IRA", and added to his Immigration problems after he moved to the United States.

You don't *have* to do anything. Just tell them you prefer to keep your charitable contributions private.
give away goods as a charity
Anything. Charity doesn't have to be thousands of dollars to the poor people in Africa, it can be a pear of pants for a friend who has a hard time finding money for clothes... It can be to give up your lunch for someone that's broke. Charity means to give up something you don't need for someone who needs it more.
