I don't think he did, because if he did he wouldn't be able to perform like that. I mean, if you see him live he sounds very close to the CD, and that's hard to do. Alot of singers don't do that, but he did. Also, smoking would make his voice horrible which would lead to him not performing good on stage. I mean if you see him perform he sounds exactly like he is in his 20s, even when he was 50 before he died.
