If you are past the age of 16, chances are you have lost the most valuable time for development. If you are a man, you still have tons of time. If you are a woman, however, your voice is already doing a majority of its maturing. I reached my peak as a lyric coluratura soprano at the age of 18, and prior to that I just got good instruction at a local university. It's fun, it's work. _____ If your school offers Choir, take it, and pay attention to diaphragmatic breathing and projection. If they offer Guitar or Piano, take that; an instrument will be a plus. If they offer Music Theory or Fundamentals, take that also. If they have a Theater program (especially one that does musical plays), go for it. Some colleges offer Recording classes; not necessary, but a plus. You may want to consider minoring in Music, and majoring in something more solid careerwise (things can happen), unless several of your teachers or profs encourage you to pursue music seriously, and can open doors that way for you. If you drink milk, do so sparingly, and not when you need your voice at its best. (Your body needs calcium, but you can get it in other ways, including other dairy products.) Also, DON'T SMOKE, and don't strain your voice or your throat. Alcohol's not the friendliest thing for vocal cords either. Good luck.

No, you just have to be part of a singing academy or something like that.

Different user: It's not necessary to join any special groups to be a singer, or having to go to school to be a singer.

Different user: All you have to do to become a singer is to get a record producer to listen to your song, but you don't have to go to college.

No, but it would be a good idea to study with a voice teacher.

Most singers who are still young and in high school end up with private tutors.
