After a women undergoes menopause, she is no longer able to conceive children by natural means. Menopause typically occurs in the late 40's through the mid 50's years of life. Hardly elderly, but that's just how it goes.

Many men, however, remain fertile and virile into a much later age, allowing older (even elderly) men to impregnate women.
