These two gents were the stars and presenters of the variety-comedy Hee-Haw which can be stretched to be called Musical comedy- in the C&W vein. I believe Mr. Owens died recently. The show was notable for the lighter side of Country Music- not the heavy stuff that sadly dominates the genre. Almost all plotted C&W songs- that is that have a song tell a story, end tragically. In some cases a slight rewriter could redeem the situation. For example a romance budding in Melinda ( goes out) when her mother unexpectedly dies. Melilnda and her Mom operated a dress shop on the route of trucker-supplier who sings the story. It did not have to end sadly- She could have an aunt in a nearby town, you know.
