The first record to reach number one in 1955 was "Let me go Lover" by Joan Weber (pretty song, typical of the early 50's, but hardly a rock song). That was approximately six months before "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and his Comets reached number one. That song was the first real rock song to reach the top spot.
