∙ 17y agoHaley and his Comets (aka Saddlemen) created Rock 'n' Roll in the early 1950's. During a year and a half engagement at the Twin Bar located in Gloucester City, NJ, theycombined black rhythm and blues, country western and western swing together and came up with what they called cowboy jive which is now what we call Rock 'n' Roll.

The first film with a Rock and Roll theme song was "Blackboard Jungle" (1955). The song was "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets.
Whitney Houston, with her 1987 album, Whitney, became the first female artist to have an album debut at number one on the Billboard charts. The album produced six singles.
Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" single (1995) was the first single to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The first album to debut at #1 on the Billboard popular-album chart was Elton John's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975).
The first solo female act to reach a Number One Billboard ranking was Kitty Wells. On 1952 she reached the top of the Country Billboard Chart in America with 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels'.

The rock era charts began in January 1955. Prior to July, most of the hits that year were pretty much vanilla pop, Until Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and The Comets raced to the top of the charts in early July, 1955
Haley's first group as a leader was the Four Aces of Western Swing. Then he formed Bill Haley and the Saddlemen around 1949-1950, which became Bill Haley and the Comets in 1952.
Originally recorded by Big Joe Turner, a blues legend. It was later recorded by Bill Haley and the Comets, and became his first chart hit, rising to number 7 in August, 1954.
