Turn on and listen underneath. If its louder under car then I suspect a bearing has gone on the crank shaft. If its louder on the top of the engine then I suspect its a lifter either out of adjustment or stuck. If you can be more specific of what and where I can help better
If a lifter is stuck in the lifter bore and won't move, it has probably ruined the cam. The procedure would be to install a new cam and lifters.
a car lifter or a motor lifter
A stuck lifter or loose connecting rod.
Stuck hydraulic lifter.
A stuck crank sensor can be removed by spraying it with an anti-seize liquid. It can then be gently pried out of position using pliers.
Crank shaft
This is a toughie. First you have to decide which lifter it is then pull the rocker cover and find the rocker arm that has play in it. Then look at the lifter and where the push rod rides should be stuck down further in the lifter bore than the rest. Or press down on the inside and if it goes down over 1/8 inch and is springy the lifter is bad.
Depends on how the lifter has failed. In most all cases you will have loss of power and there may or may not be a ticking or tapping noise. There will be a "misfire" in the cylinder that has the bad lifter, There is loss of fuel economy. The car will fail emissions testing.

are you sure the noise is coming from the transmission. most cars will make a knocking sound due to the lifters being a little stuck. to see if it is a lifter noise, at the net oil change use a qt of lucas oils. there will be one that says something about lifter noises on the front, found at any parts store
Lack of oil changes.
