Some cars are not designed to be economy cars. If a car is rated at 18 miles per gallon you can't expect much more then that but you can expect to get alot less at times. Aside from the size of the engine, factors that waste gas include: Rapid acceleration, low air pressure in tires, bad air filter, idling, and air conditiong. Putting air in the tires, new air filter and slow driving will increase your gas milage about 5%. Over the counter fuel cleaners have been proven to raise gas milage by only 0.01% and costs between $1 and $7 dollars per container.
