Some cars are not designed to be economy cars. If a car is rated at 18 miles per gallon you can't expect much more then that but you can expect to get alot less at times. Aside from the size of the engine, factors that waste gas include: Rapid acceleration, low air pressure in tires, bad air filter, idling, and air conditiong. Putting air in the tires, new air filter and slow driving will increase your gas milage about 5%. Over the counter fuel cleaners have been proven to raise gas milage by only 0.01% and costs between $1 and $7 dollars per container.

You should have your ECM changed so that you are not using too much gas. If you don't switch out your ECM your car will get worse and drink more gas.
Don't know what vehicle you have or how much is too fast but if it is using more fuel than it has in the past, it may be time for a tune up.
Why is my car exhaust smoking so much and smelling of gas?AND WHY IS MY CAR HOLDING BACK WHEN I PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDDLEWell you probably have black on the outside of the exhaust to and it means your car is running too rich on gas check your fuel pressure you probably have too much and that's y you are lagging to this could be cause of bad fuel pump emc which is your computer or your fuel pressure regulater.
Change your oxgen Sensors and plugs. This is what worked for me.
An electric car doesn't go very fast and are usually small, Gas powered cars have much more torque and speed. Some newer cars run on both so when they are going slow they run on electricity but when they are going fast they run on gas. These are not electric cars though as the fuel used is gas to create the electric power. To answer your question, gas cars are far better because they can go further then 20 miles and are legal on our roads. There are no legal electric cars commercially built.and do not exist.
your car could die from so much gas - April 13 nh
If you speed or accelerate abnormally or you drive too slow then the car may be using up too much fuel.
I'm moving to Salem Oregon in June, I would like to drive my car, so that I can have my own transportation, how much money should I have for the gas?
The answer to this depends on several factors. The type of car you drive. If you have an "older" car the gas mileage will be less or a larger car it will use more gas.The cost of the gas. The price of gas varies between cities and areas. So you may fill up at home and find the price higher where you drive to.How fast you drive. The faster you drive the more gas you will use.Physical condition of car. If it has been awhile since your car was serviced gas use goes up.How much you carry in your car. If you have a lot of stuff/people in the car the gas mileage goes down. Weight equals gas usage.
I belive the mortgage industries standard is $0.67/ mi. I'm actually trying to find some information on that myself so i couldn't be certain.
Its would cost at least 500 to rent the car...then all the gas it would take 50 for gas so $550
