It is on the front snout of the crankshaft behind the timing chain cover. It bolts to the front side of the engine block. In order to replace it, one would have to remove the water pump, harmonic balancer/crank pulley, and timing cover on front of engine just to access the pump. Then the oil pan would have to be removed to access and remove the oil pick tube.

No you do not. The oil pump is not in the oil pan.It is behind the timing cover that is on the front of the engine. You will have to remove everything that is bolted onto the front of the engine. The oil pump slides over the front of the crankshaft.
To prime the oil pump on most cars all you need to do is turn the motor over without it firing, disconnect the coil and turn the key, this will prime the pump.
