The current technology involved in flying cars can be traced very directly to avionics. The use of airplane engines in both jet, turbine and cylinder combustion with a variety of lift options. Some being of the traditional "wing" design and others sharing more in common with rotary blades. Lightweight materials are used in body construction to reduce the overall mass of the vehicles.
