In the short run, secure the hood with Duct Tape, straps, or whatever you can come up with. Then either get the latch fixed, (maybe oiling it will sort it out.)or install some of those hood locks that racers use.
Bang the hood above the latch while someone pulls the hood release from in the car. Good luck.

Use a screwdriver to release the hood latch through the front grille. Take a look at the hood latch on another car to get an idea of how they work.
if your car runs, drive to your local fire dept they have a tool specially for opening hoods of cars when it wont open the proper way it will take em about 1 minute to open and will not do damage.i am sure if you ask they will open it for u and have a bit of alaugh aswellwhen opened get a soda pop can and jam between hood and latch so it will not close on second latch until u replace cable
If the latch under your hood is damaged and won't lock then your hood could fly up while you are driving. You should take it to a mechanic to see if they can fix your latch.
Find the hood control on the driver side of the car or try working the hood latch.
try the door.
There is a latch underneath the dash on the left side that you have to release. On the outside of the car, lift up slightly on the hood to find the other latch.
Opening the hood on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is very easy to do. The hood is opened by pulling on the hood release latch inside the car on the drivers side. After the latch is pulled the hood will release. The hood is then opened by pulling the second release under the hood.
my latch is broken on my Honda and all i did was put a bungy cord thru the loop in the hood and pull it to the tow hitch on the bottom of the car and it works fine
This is what I have had to do for my 94 cutlass supreme. Hold the hood release wire lever open from inside the car with a something - a screwdriver or some such thing. Then just pull up on the hood and voila, it releases the latch.
