Central air conditioners should always be set to a comfort level. The most comfortable setting is 78 degrees. Any colder would make any room feel like it's freezing and air conditioners are not for that purpose. Keeping a room too cold will cause sickness in many humans who already suffer from bronchitis or many colds. Unlike heating a home/apartment, the normal setting would be 70 degrees to keep the home/apartment warm and comfortable. Please remember if your home/apartment is shared by others then leave the setting for comfort.
It should be located "an arms reach" from your condenser.

The refrigerant (freon) in any air conditioner should last the life of the unit. If not, you have a leak.

Yes, and you should use a time delay fuse.
Unless you are epa certified you shouldn't add any r22 to your air conditioner. And if you are, you should probably already know... It depends on what type of unit it is. Is it a central split unit or a window unit?
keep it closed the windows .but if need fresh air from outside , open the windows.
Setting the thermostat to "auto" is generally more energy efficient and comfortable in the home compared to setting it to "on." This is because the "auto" setting allows the system to cycle on and off as needed to maintain the desired temperature, while the "on" setting keeps the system running continuously.
