Downshifting is safe, you will only encounter problems in situations where you transmission is overheating. The CVT is much more advanced than other transmissions. The Transmission controller and Engine ECU would work together to ensure that everything is all systems go during accelleration and deceleration.
expanding this idea further. there are very sensitive sensors that monitor any type of slippage or problems with the CVT belt. The transmission is a highly pressurized system just to operate, how it runs doesnt really add more stress. The ECU will not allow you to do anything that will harm it.
Once the computer tells the transmission to downshift the car should in theory downshift just as quickly as it upshifts.
Yes; it could damage the transmission.
it's probably the head gaskets.
Downshift a gear until you have sufficient power without overevving engine.
yes because the clutch is spinning then you mak it quick go the opposite way
Try the emergency break, also throw it in neautral or with a standard downshift
Yes, you can put a manual transmission in a 1993 Lincoln Town Car. The purpose of the engine is to provide motion to the transmission.
nothing
pump the brakes and downshift.
Take it to Auto Zone and have the codes read for free.
That may be exactly what is happening. You may be accelerating at the moment it is trying to complete the downshift and you catch it between gears. That may be exactly what is happening. You may be accelerating at the moment it is trying to complete the downshift and you catch it between gears.
Depends on what model it is. Eaton makes both synchromesh and unsynchronized transmissions. The synchromesh transmissions (6 and 7 speed) shift like a regular car or light truck transmission.. push in the clutch, downshift. Unsynchronized transmissions, you take the transmission out of gear, rev the engine up the appropriate RPMs, then push it into the next gear down. This requires you to hit the RPMs right.
