Removing epoxy paint off a car can be a tricky task, but with the right preparation and proper tools, it can be accomplished relatively easily.

The first step is to thoroughly clean the car with a pressure washer or a degreaser. This will remove any dirt, debris, and grease from the surface of the car, making it easier to remove the epoxy paint.

Once the car has been cleaned, it is important to wear protective gear, such as gloves, a face mask, and safety glasses, before beginning the removal process.

Next, you need to use a heat gun to soften the epoxy paint. Heat guns typically reach temperatures between 700 and 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and should be used in small circular motions to ensure even heating. It is important to be careful when using a heat gun as it can easily damage the car’s paint or other components.

Once the epoxy paint has softened, it is time to start stripping it off with a scraper. The scraper should be held at a 45-degree angle and used in a back-and-forth motion. It is important to be gentle when scraping the paint off as it can cause scratches or other damage to the car’s surface.

Once the majority of the epoxy paint has been removed, you can use a chemical paint stripper to get rid of the remaining paint. Chemical paint strippers contain a variety of chemicals that break down the paint, making it easier to remove.

When using a chemical paint stripper, it is important to follow the instructions carefully and wear protective gear, such as gloves and a face mask.

Once the epoxy paint has been completely removed, it is important to use a wax or sealant to protect the car’s paint. This will help to prevent any future damage to the paint.

Removing epoxy paint off a car can be a tricky and time-consuming task, but with the right preparation and proper tools, it can be accomplished relatively easily.

Goof Off is excellent for this. I've tried it on 3 different cars from GM, Ford and Chrysler. It takes the glue or spray paint particles off without damaging the original paint. After using it for this, I would recommend waxing that least that portion of the car.

July 2010-

I got epoxy glue on my black car paint and the window. I used GOO GONE to remove it. It came off of the window with a razor blade in one second.

For the car paint...I had to spray it one, let it sink it, rub it a little and do it again. BE PATIENT!! It is worth the $$ you saved getting it buffed and painted out.

The piece on the car was about 3 inches by 2 inches. It took about 30 minutes. I used my nail and also a paper clip double wrapped in a towel to GENTLY push off the resin. It worked 100000%.

Im posting here to help since Im sure others were worried about their own removal, like mine!

Good luck!

Can you use latex paint over an epoxy painted wall. and what steps are needed?

You can definitely use latex paint over epoxy. In fact, it is recommended to use latex over epoxy by the paint manufacturers, rather than using epoxy over epoxy. The latex adheres better and if you then want to use epoxy next time you paint, you have a nice coat of latex between the layers. If you use epoxy over epoxy, often the paint will just peel off in layers once some time passes (and sometimes right away).

Remove epoxy from glass?

The way to remove epoxy depends on where the epoxy is. If it is on the skin a person can use vinegar or acetone to remove the epoxy. If the epoxy is dried onto a surface a person can use paint thinner or adhesive remover to get rid of the epoxy.

How do you prepare the surface to use epoxy paint over a rubber-based paint on a gunite pool?

Swimming pool paint companies do not recomment mixing paint types rubber goes back on rubber or epoxy back on epoxy So if you want epoxy, sandblast off the rubber. BTW Silica sand is very toxic and best left to the pros, the paint ain't much to help out the health either. Take special care when painting, Kelly Tech is a good paint source good swimming getapool.com

Will Paint Thinner Dissolves Epoxy Before Hardened?

No. Most paint thinner will not dissolve epoxy at all. However, many epoxies reach a stage where they can be peeled off just before they finally harden. Look for this happening and try to peel it.
