They refused to change their attitude towards slavery. Slavery was prohibited in Mexico. The Texicans, wanted to have slaves, similar to other states in the USA in the deep south. One of the reasons that Texas split from Mexico and wanted to join the USA was for Texicans to keep and maintain slavery of Black people.
