The blue wire is usually just an auxiliary wire. The blue wire does not need to be connected. Tape the end of the blue wire off.
the blue or red tape will stay the same
What my brother and I did in his house. (He had a older house where nothing was actually square.) We taped off the molding with that blue painters tape and then used some drywall mud to help "blend" the places where the moldings did touch. We let this dry and then just repainted the ceiling where we patched it. It was a little time consuming, but it definitely looks a 100% better now. Hope this helps. You can also use a nice quality paintable caulk to fill in the gaps. It looks great when finished.
100 mph tape is duck tape or duct tape, it is called 100 mph tape because it can withstand winds up to 100 mph. Google it if you don't believe me.
tape that doesn't tell lies
Painters' tape isn't always blue, sometimes it's green, depending on the manufacturer. However, painters' tape is made in color to differentiate it from regular masking tape. This makes it easier to identify in both the retail store and the toolbox. Masking tape has more and more aggressive adhesive on it, when it is removed from painted surfaces it can and often does, leave an adhesive residue behind or remove some of the top coat of the paint. Painter's tape is designed to be easily removed with the least amount of damage/cleanup. This is not to say you can leave painters' tape on a surface indefinitely and have it come off with no difficulties.

If you roll up a ball of blue tack and rub it against the blue tack on the wall it comes off easily. Or, if like me you don't have any fresh blue tack available, I used blue painters tape. I got as much off the wall as I could by hand, and then placed the blue painters tape over the spots and pressed it into the orange-peel texture as much as possible, then peeled off the tape with the remaining blue-tack stuck to the tape. Do this a couple of times over each spot until clean.
Blue masking tape is commonly sold in many paint stores.
