if you have the vortech engine it sounds like the central fuel injector is bad. its one main injector with 8 spider like tubes that go to each cylinder not a cheap job make sure they use a delco part not aftermarket they also have to change two fuel supply hoses it happens to all vortechs 80000+ miles when you start it it paints black carbon circles on your driveway get it done or you will ruin the engine smell your dipstick it smells like gas change oil when job is done email me for more help if you need g

∙ 11y agoWhy does my truck skip and pop on one side and blows black smoke??
buy a cummins
No. Black smoke is created when your truck is running Rich meaning that you are getting to much fuel the black smoke is just simply unburned fuel
possibly needs a new carborator
What kind of solvent?
It is completely normal for a diesel to smoke black. But, if it just now started to smoke black and everything on the truck is stock, go get it checked out by a mechanic. You could have bad fuel injectors or a dirty air filter. Start with the simple stuff first. And, I'd say from it being a 2004 Powerstroke 6.0L, that your injectors are probably bad.
Could be a diesel? If not then replace your oxygen sensor on your exhaust. A bad oxygen sensor causes the exhaust smoke to be dark in color.
your truck blue smoke when it burns oil, or transmission fluid.
valve seals. Can be replaced with engine in truck & heads do not have to be removed.
if its white smoke ,it could be ablown head gasket,if its black smoke, its your carb. running rich,or your piston rings are bad,on mine my 2 front plugs kept getting oil on them.head was good but rings were bad,got a reman.. from jasper and put a webber 32/36 and its so bad now...
it can be unburned fuel damaged turbo charger etc. light amount of smoke can be normal large amounts = problem.
Start your truck cold. If a lot of white smoke blows out that is a slight indication, but not always. Pull out your spark plugs on the side you think you have blown and see if water pours out, if water comes out from the spark plug hole, then yes. You've blown a head gasket.
