The latitudinal extent influences the duration of the day and night, as one moves from South to North.
As Kanyakumari lies close to the equator, the sun rays are felt more whereas Kashmir lies above the tropic of cancer, therefore sun rays are felt slanting towards the north of equator so the difference is felt more in kanyakumari than kashmir.

∙ 12y agoKanniyakumari is situated near Equator. here day and night are almost equal. but as we advance towards north or south of the equator the sun rays become oblique (slanting) making the difference between the length of the day and night progressively more and more. at the nethermost tip of India this difference is about 5 hours.

∙ 11y agoKannikumari is just 8 degrees away from the equator. As equator receives the direct Sun rays, there won't be hardly any difference between the day & night. Where as, Kashmir is 37 degrees away from the equator. So there can be about 5 hrs difference between day & night.
